Christopher Barrilleaux, M.D.

  • Christopher Barrilleaux, M.D.Born in Franklin, Louisiana in 1954. Grew up in Metairie, LA and graduated from Jesuit High School, New Orleans in 1972
  • Attended Tulane University in New Orleans and graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science, Magna cum laude, with a double major in Biology and German
  • Attended Tulane University School of Medicine and graduated in 1980 Awarded the Henry B. Maclauren Award for ENT research for 1980
  • While still in medical school, Dr. Barrilleaux married Rhonda Stein and welcomed their first child
  • Flexible Internship and Internal Medicine Residency, U.S. Army at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. 1980 - 1983
  • General Internist in West Germany, 1983 - 1986
    • 2nd Field Hospital (USAMEDDAC), Bremerhaven, West Germany for one year. Board certifed in Internal Medicine September 1983
    • 67th Evacuation Hospital (USAMEDDAC), Wuzburg, West Germany for two years
  • Gastroenterology Fellowship, Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) 1986 - 1988
  • Junior teaching staff in Gastroenterology at BAMC and promoted to rank of Major - 1988 - 1990
    • Board Certified in Gastroenterology in November 1989
  • Before leaving the Army, he published several scienific articles and 2 more children entered the family
  • After deciding to accept an honorable discharge in 1990, Dr. Barrilleaux moved his family back to Metairie, LA and accepted a position with Mahomer Clinic and, subsequently, the Browne - McHardy Clinic.
  • Dr. Barrilleaux joined Dr. Harrington to form East Bank Gastroenterology, LLC in 1999
  • Along the way, Dr. Barrilleaux became a clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tulane University of Medicine and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Louisiana State University Science Center. He has also been recognized by 3 national professional societies by being honored as a Fellow of the American Colleg of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterological Association.
  • In addition to performing various advanced endoscopic procedures such as ERCP, biliary sphicterotomy, biiary and esophageal stenting, Dr. Barrilleaux's interest in Endoscopic Ultrasonography (EUS) let him to seek further training both in the United States and in Montral, Canada in order to become proficient in this field as well. Over the years, he has also had an interest in liver disease, especially Chronic Hepatitus C.
  • Since 2004 he has been a founding member of the Alliance Endoscopy Center in Metairie, and the South Lake Surgery Center in LaPlace
  • Outside the practice of Medicine, Dr. Barrilleaux serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for East Jefferson General Hospital (EJGH), Metairie, LA. In this role, he has led the installation and management of EJGH's electronic medical record. At present he is leading a move to bring EJGH  and its Medical Staff into the 21st Century by developing a network of health records (EHRs).
  • In his spare time Dr. Barrilleaux enyoys reading history, traveling, photography and dabbling in foreign languages
